Post Protector Column Protection System
Won't the posts eventually rot in the ground?
One of the most common questions people ask about post-frame construction is how long the posts will last in the ground. The Post Protector system adds a layer of protection where your building's structural columns meet the soil.

How it works
Post Protector is an advanced barrier system that wraps the embedded portion of the column, creating a protective separation between the wood and the surrounding soil. This barrier helps prevent the conditions that can contribute to wood decay while also providing additional uplift resistance for the building.
Wood decay requires several conditions to exist simultaneously: moisture, oxygen, favorable temperatures, and direct access by naturally occurring soil microorganisms. The Post Protector barrier system helps isolate the wood column from direct soil contact, reducing the ability of decay-causing microorganisms to reach the wood fibers.
Built for the long haul
Because decay-causing microorganisms naturally exist in the soil, protecting the critical ground-line area of a post can play an important role in the long-term durability of a post-frame structure.
A post-frame building is a significant investment. By protecting the most vulnerable portion of the structural columns, the Post Protector system helps ensure your Heritage Pole Barn Kits building is designed to provide decades of reliable service.
Key features
- Creates a protective barrier between the wood column and the surrounding soil
- Helps reduce the risk of ground-line decay
- Provides additional uplift protection
- Protects one of the most critical areas of a post-frame building
- Compatible with pressure-treated laminated columns
- Designed specifically for post-frame construction
- Adds confidence in the long-term performance of your building
Common questions
Do I need Post Protectors if the columns are already treated?
The pressure-treated lower section of each column already protects against decay and insects. Post Protectors add a physical barrier at the ground line plus extra uplift resistance for customers who want the additional protection.
